Boom

This is a little local picture I took back in early december of 2005.

The Zip feed mill had been a landmark in Sioux Falls SD for quite a while, it being one of the Tallest buildings in this town. However the Mayor had several plans to rennovate the downtown wich the Feedmill didn't fit into. They announced in early 2005 that the mill was going to be knocked over, and quickly crews went to work gutting it of metals and strategically weakening the structure for blasting it. Finally, the first Saturday in December, with crowds watching from about every visible angle... they shoved down the plunger.

It didn't go as planned.

The blast took out the first floor... the upper floors falling down onto it and then leaning backwards... when it stopped in this position.

Needless to say, a lot of Laughing occured after this.

Having been out of town that weekend, I took this picture the following Monday. It took them a couple months to get the job done right.
