Sea devil in flight

Last night, I sat down to try to further my work on the Obsidian gem I'm trying to create.  To say that fell flat was an understatement.

So... I flipped the page in my notebook and decided to do something with the 'Bad Lapis' I created, ans pushed aside, for s contest.... flipping back and forth between the references below, I'd have to say it took be about an hour to draw this up with minimum mistakes.  Which is a small miracle, considering how I suck at fingers and toes.

     

I am extremely satisfied with how this turned out; the anatomy, the fluidity with the wings, and especially the expression which, as a friend described, depicts her 'ready to tear your hear out through your chest'.  Even got the pupils lined up right.

I'm still pondering the identity for this Lapis, however the personality has been figured out for a long time.  She's seriously demented, known to enjoy using her abilities to terraform potentially colonies a little 'too much'... and by 'too much' I mean she likes to use them on any indigenous life.  Spearing with ice, squishing under high pressure, but what she really enjoys is drowning them, especially how they kick around.  Her 'enthusiasm' creeps out the other Lapises, disgusts the higher-ups, and her 'distractions' are counter-productive to scheduled Kindergarten construction.  Until eventually she proceeded to frack her supervisor, several guards, and a pearl before taking off on her own.  So yeah... Galactic psychopath with no real allegiance.

I should note that the damage to the Diamond on her dress doesn't signify any cracking or corruption, she 'tore' it herself to signify her independence from the diamonds.

I may come back and ink/color this.... but I'm not sure if I want to risk messing up.  At least here she's on display.
